In my work, I try to capture the feelings and events of everyday. I’m hardly ever without my sketchbook which allows me to draw any ideas or events that catch my interest, allowing me to build a store of ideas for future projects. Sometimes these ideas will stay as that, but sometimes they will be incorporated into something much more. Artists as varied as Roy Lichtenstein to Janet Ternoff have influenced my work and how I view art in general.
I try to focus my art on how everyday events can be the most magical by juxtaposing the realistic with the fantastical. I accomplish this by incorporating pop art or abstract concepts into more traditional environments.
The medium I enjoy working with the most is acrylic on canvas because of how diverse it is in it’s aesthetics and process. The paints can emulate the soft tones of oil paintings, the rustic look of distressed materials, or have the intense and saturated hues found in pop art. It seems like with acrylics my imagination is my only limit which I enjoy.
